SciCHLOR®

Customer Overview

Our customer, a municipal water department is responsible for providing safe, clean, and reliable drinking water for the community. Their system operates continuously, requiring reliable and efficient disinfection to maintain water quality and regulatory compliance. Any interruptions or inconsistencies in chlorine supply direct impacts their ability to meet public health standards.

The Problem

The customer’s chlorination process relied on purchasing and storing bulk liquid bleach (sodium hypochlorite). Over time, this approach presented several operational and financial challenges:

  • Rising chemical costs and price fluctuations in bulk chlorine deliveries
  • Degradation of chlorine strength during storage, leading to inconsistent dosing and variable water quality
  • Safety and handling risks associated with transporting and storing concentrated chemicals

They needed a simple, low cost and robust chlorination method that could operate continuously with minimal maintenance and improved safety.

The Solution

After evaluating several options, the customer selected the SciCHLOR® on-site sodium hypochlorite generation system. The SciCHLOR® system produces chlorine solution directly on-site using only salt, water, and electricity, eliminating the need for chemical deliveries.

The compact, skid-mounted design fit easily into their existing treatment facility, and its automated control system ensured consistent chlorine production with minimal operator input. The SchCHLOR® continuously generates a low-strength (0.8% NaOCl) hypochlorite solution, ideal for potable water disinfection, with real-time monitoring and alarm features for safe, unattended operation.

The Results

Since commissioning the SciCHLOR® system, the customer has achieved substantial operational improvements:

  • Reduced disinfection costs, as the system uses inexpensive salt and the electromagnetic cell, SciCELL, instead of purchased liquid bleach
  • Improved reliability – with on-demand chlorine production, ensuring a consistent disinfectant supply
  • Enhanced safety due to the elimination of bulk chemical handling and storage.
  • Stable chlorine concentration, improving dosing accuracy and overall water quality control
  • Low maintenance requirements, with automated operation and minimal operator intervention

The SciCHLOR® system has performed exceptionally well in a 24/7 municipal wastewater treatment environment.

Key Takeaway

The SciCHLOR® on-site sodium hypochlorite generation system provides municipalities with a safe, efficient and sustainable approach to water disinfection. By generating chlorine directly from salt, water, and electricity, operators eliminate the need for bulk chemical deliveries, reduce operational costs, and gain full control over disinfection quality.
